Assigning Service Numbers from Inventory

Prev Next

You can assign inventoried service numbers to a customer account via the New Customer Wizard and the Add Service(s) & Feature(s) Wizard. These wizards function the same for inventoried services as they do for non-inventoried services, with one exception. When you select an inventoried service in the Add Services window, the double-click, Fast-Assign, Assign, and Assign (Port-In) options differ slightly from that provided for a non-inventoried service. This section describes these differences. See the New Customer Wizard and Add Service(s) and Feature(s) Wizard for instructions on how to use these wizards to add new customers and new catalog items, as this information is not repeated here. This section only describes how you add an inventoried service number from the Add Services and Service Details windows in either one of these wizards.

  • From the Applications menu, click Customer Management > New Customer. The New Customer Wizard is launched.

    OR

Right-click in the Catalog Items tab in the Customer # window and select New Catalog Item(s). The Add Service(s) & Feature(s) Wizard is launched.

  • Proceed to the Add Services window.

    AddInventoriedService

    • For each inventoried service you want to add to this order:

      • Enter the desired number of services in the Quantity input field.

      • Enter the date the service is to begin in the Start Date input field.

      • If the service address for this service is different than the one displayed in the Service Address field, select the desired service address from the drop-down list. If the desired address does not appear in this list, you can add the address to the list by clicking the selector button SelectorButton. to the right of this field and selecting Find Existing Address, Create New Address, or Edit Address.

      • Check the Ignore Reservations check box, if you do not want to use reserved service numbers.

      • Check the Choose Service Numbers check box, if you want to select your service numbers from a list of available service numbers and reserved service numbers that have not yet been assigned.

        Note

This check box is only available, if Application > CostGuard Client > Customer Management > Customers > Catalog Items > Choose Service Numbers is enabled in your Permission Profile.

      • Select the inventoried service you want to add to the order, using one of the following methods:

        • Shortcut method (bypasses New Service window) - either double-click on the desired service or right-click on the desired service and select Fast Assign. See Fast Assign an Inventoried Service for additional information.

        • Long method (displays New Service window, so you can enter additional information regarding the new service) - right-click on the desired service and select Assign. See Assign an Inventoried Service for additional information.

        • Ported-in method - right-click on the desired service and select Assign (Port-In). See Assign a Ported-In Service for additional information.

  • Uncheck the Create Service Detail Pages check box, if you want to bypass the Service Details windows typically displayed for each service you add to the order.

  • When you are done adding services, click Next. The Service Details (X of Y) window is displayed.

    InventoriedServiceDetails

    • The Service Details window for inventoried services functions the same as the Service Details window for non-inventoried services, with following exceptions:

      • For non-inventoried services, you modify the service number directly in the Service Number field. For inventoried services, you use the selector button to the right of the Service Number field to change the service number assigned to this service

      • If you are modifying an inventoried wireless service, the MIN field cannot be modified. If you modify the service number assigned to the service, the system automatically populates the MIN field with next available MIN in inventory.

    • To modify the service number, click the Service Number selector button and select one of the following:

      • If you want to assign the next available service number, select Get Available Service Number. See Get Available Service Number for additional information.

      • If you want to choose a service number from inventory, select Choose Available Service Number. See Choose Available Service Number for additional information.

      • If you want to assign a service number that is not in inventory and subsequently add that service number to the inventory assigned to this service, select Add New Service Number To Inventory. See Add New Service Number To Inventory for additional information.

        Note

The Add New Service Numbers To Inventory option is only provided if the "Allow Additions to Inventory" option is selected for this inventory (see Service Number Inventories) AND Application > CostGuard Client > Inventory Management > Service Number Inventory > Service Numbers > New is enabled in your Permission Profile.

      • If you want to assign a temporary service number, select Use Temporary Service Numbers. The Service Number field is populated with a temporary service number - "XXXXXXXXXX".

        Note

The Use Temporary Service Numbers option is only provided if you are modifying a non-wireless service AND that service allows temporary service numbers. The Allow Temporary Service Numbers check box must be selected for this service in the Product Catalog.

      • If you want to assign a service number that is not in inventory and subsequently add that service number to the inventory as a ported-in number, select Create Ported-In Service Number. See Create Ported-In Service Number for additional information.

  • From this point forward, the wizards function the same for inventoried service numbers as they do for non-inventoried service numbers.
