The IDI platform calculates usage charges through rate plans and pricing plans which are configured in Product Management. A rate plan is a set of specifications that establishes the rate at which calls are charged, based on distance and location data extracted from the call detail record (CDR). Pricing plans associate the various types of usage such as domestic, international, 800 or directory assisted, with a specific rate plan.
When the IDI platform rates a call it extracts the pertinent information including the originating and terminating numbers, and type of usage (domestic, international, 800, directory assisted, and so on) from the CDR. The IDI platform then searches through pricing plans assigned to a subscriber account to find the rate plan and rate detail specification that matches the CDR.
