An Equipment Type stores basic (common) properties associated with a particular kind of equipment.
To begin working with Equipment Types, choose Manage > Equipment Types from the Applications menu.

This opens the Manage Equipment Types page.

From here you can create a new Equipment Type or work with an existing Equipment Type.
Creating a New Equipment Type
Click New to create a new Equipment Type. This displays a page with all existing Equipment Types listed on the left (this area is empty when you're first getting started), and fields for creating a new Equipment Type on the right.

Enter the required information using the fields on the right to specify the new Equipment Type.

Name | Enter an Equipment Type description in the text field. |

Assignment Method | This determines whether you can assign the equipment to a single customer only, multiple customers, or not at all. Use the pull down menu to choose:

Allow Equipment Address | Use this check box to select whether or not equipment of this type can have an address associated to it. |
Allow Reassignment | Indicates whether the equipment can be reassigned to another customer when it becomes available. For example, a terminal pair can be reused, but a circuit ID might not be reusable.

Enforce Equipment Status when Open Tickets | This lets you ensure a piece of equipment with open Tickets against it is not available for reassignment. Generally when you assignment(s) for a piece of equipment, the status is set to Available so the equipment can be reassigned. When this property is checked, if there are open Tickets on the equipment and this property, the equipment will go to Not Available status so that it cannot be reassigned.

Attribute Definition | As an option you can use this drop down menu to associate an attribute definition to an equipment type. Attributes are configured via the IDI Desktop Client. |
Enforce required attributes only when assigned | When checked, required attributes will not be required when equipment of this type is added. Rather they will only be required when assigned. |
Working with a Selected Equipment Type
Clicking an Equipment Type link in the Description column displays the corresponding Equipment Type page.

From here you can edit or delete the selected Equipment Type, or choose to create a new Equipment Type.
