Billing Orders Quick Overview

Here's a quick explanation of Orders and Billing Orders in the Orders web module. An Order is what you create, edit and manage in the Orders web module to add/disconnect/modify Services and Features on an account. A Billing Order is what actually updates the Services and Features on the customer account in CostGuard such that the account can be billed accordingly.

After you submit an Order in the Orders web module, there are steps to be completed before the Order can be transitioned to a Billing Order to update the account. For Wireless providers, this may be as simple as running the applicable provisioning commands after the Order is submitted. Wireline providers generally require a more involved process that may include manual steps, such as installing equipment. In either case, whether the process is complex or relatively simple, once all the steps are completed, the Workflow Billing Status Update Action is run to create the Billing Order.

Prior to running this action, you can use the Orders web module to edit, submit, place on-hold, resume, or cancel an Order, depending on . After running this action, the Order Status is set to Complete. At that point, when the Order becomes a Billing Order, you can no longer manage the Order via the Orders web module. However, you can view the Billing Order via the Orders web module OmniSearch.

Accessing Billing Orders

Access to Billing Orders is via the Billing Order Search. See Order Search.

Choosing to View Billing Orders in Customer Care or the Orders Web Application

When you select a Billing Order from the search results, whether you view the Billing Order in the Orders web application or view it in Customer Care is determined by the Global Setting - View Billing Orders in Order App.

Note

This setting is disabled by default, such that clicking a Billing Order ID will take you to the detail view in Customer Care. To view Billing Order details directly in Orders, this setting must be enabled. See Billing Orders Setup.

UG template for Help

The statuses of related orders, when applicable, are rolled up to the root order. As only one status can be displayed at a time, the displayed order status is calculated using the root order as the starting point and working down through related children as follows:

  • If any related order is incomplete, that status takes precedence over all other statuses. In the case of multiple incompleted statuses, the first encountered is taken.

  • f there are multiple non- complete, non-canceled statuses at the same level, CostGuard will use the following priority:

    • Incomplete

    • OnHold

    • InProcess

    • Submitted

    • Assembling

    • Completed

    • Canceled

  • Otherwise the logic will default to the top-level status.

Any order generated from another order creates a Related Order relationship. Examples of Related Orders include Move Service orders, Fulfillment orders and Split Billing orders. The presentation of Billing Orders in both Customer Care and Orders roll up all related order information to the root order, For details, see Presenting Related Billing Order Information.
