The General Ledger tab lists the product's General Ledger subcategories and their assigned GL Account Codes.
When you create a new product, the GL Account Codes assigned are those set up as the Default Account in BackOffice Management General Ledgers. See more on subcategorties below.
These default GL account codes can be overridden by selecting a Product Category on the Main tab and saving the new product.
Note
The subcategories listed in the General Ledger Properties area are determined by the type of catalog item. For example Products have four subcategories: Earned and Billed Revenue, Earned and Unbilled Revenue, Returns and Unearned and Billed Revenue, while Discounts have only one subcategory, Discounts.

To override the default (or Product Category) GL Account code:
Click Edit. This displays the Edit Assigned GL Accounts window of the select catalog item.

Click Save.
Subcategories
The subcategory provides a finer level of grouping of related accounts. The subcategory helps guide the assigning of general ledger accounts so that setting up the system is straightforward and error free. Subcategories also facilitate reporting and filtering of related general ledger accounts. Each subcategory has a type of either Billing or POS. This allows for the separation of journal entries according to whether they are generated by the Billing System or Point of Sale.
The IDI platform provides over 40 seed accounts to get started with; you can use these or create your own.
To access GL Account Subcategories:
From the Application menu select Backoffice Management > General Ledger > Accounts > Account Subcategories.
