Product Categories

Product Categories are used to group similar catalog items for accounting purposes and promotions. Each product category is associated with General Ledger Subcategories and their GL Account Codes.

The Product Categories table populates the Category drop-down list on catalog items in Promotions (wireless only) and in Product Catalog configuration.

When you assign a Product Category to a catalog item, the Product Category's General Ledger Account assignments override the default General Ledger Accounts on the General Ledger tab. Once you've assigned a Product Category, you can then override its General Ledger Accounts on the catalog item's General Ledger tab.

When you assign a Product Category to a Promotion, the system uses the items in that category to calculate discounts. See Managing Promotions. (Promotions do not apply to wireline.)

AdvancePay Products should be in a separate Product Category(ies).

To add or edit a product category:

From the Applications menu, select Product Management > Product Categories. This displays the Product Categories list.
To add a product category, right-click in the table and select New. To edit a product category, right-click the appropriate category and select Edit. This displays the Add (Edit) Product Category window.
Enter the name of the product category in the Description field.
To inherit all the default General Ledger Account Codes assigned to the General Ledger Account Subcategories, click Save.
To change one or more GL Account Codes, click Edit. This displays the Edit Assigned GL Accounts window.
Select Override from the drop-down list of the subcategory to be changed.
Select a new GL Account from the the drop-down list.
Click Save.
