Importing Users

Prev Next

User File Import lets Administrators create and update user accounts in bulk.

Note

The import process uses a comma-delimited file with one row for each user account.

Using the import, an Administrator can perform the following tasks:

  • Create a new user account and set its initial password

    (More

The import process will automatically create a new user account for any row in the import file where the User Name supplied does not already exist in Security.

When creating a new user account, certain properties will be required to be supplied for the account (e.g., password or Domain).

Some optional user properties (e.g., Activation Date) will use a default value if one is not specified for the account when a new User is being created.

  • Assign Roles to user accounts in a company’s environments

    More

Each import lets the administrator specify Roles to be added to user accounts for individual environments. This can be used when creating new users as well as a way to bulk assign new roles to existing users.

  • Update User account information and properties

    More

The import process will process a row in the file for a user account as an update if the User Name supplied already exists in Security.

For an update, the only required property is User Name. The administrator has the option of leaving blank properties that they do not wish to update.

The import process will verify property values in the import file against the user account to determine if any updates are being request.

The import process will mark records as skipped if the values in the file already match those configured in Security for the account.

Creating the User Import File

A User Import File can be created one of two ways:

  • Use a file editor to create a comma-delimited file. The required header row is specified on the User File Import page.

  • Use the Export Users link on the Users search page to create a comma-delimited file with the users you need to modify.

The Export Users utilizes the correct format and can be modified by an Administrator as needed and then re-imported.
