A Quick Look at the IDI Desktop Client

Prev Next

The focal point of the IDI Desktop Client is the main window. This window has five functional areas.

Active Window

You can have one or more windows open at the same time in the Client. Windows are opened using the menu commands or toolbar commands.

The main menu bar remains constant regardless of which window is open in the client. It provides access to all commands, although some may be disabled for certain users as determined by user permission profiles (configured in the Admin Console).

Application-specific menus may be available when certain windows are open in the client, such as the Customer window as shown above.

Clearing Local Cache

When you make changes to data, the changes may not be immediately available in the target application. For example, if you make changes to tables in Data Management, the changes may not be immediately apparent in the IDI Desktop Client drop-down lists. To force the changes to be available immediately, select Tools > Clear Local Cache.

Toolbars

The client toolbar provides quick access to a configurable subset of commands based on the user currently logged in to the IDI Desktop Client. When a user account is created in the Admin Console, the user is assigned a toolbar profile which specifies the commands available to that user via the toolbar. Toolbars and toolbar profiles are configurable. See Managing Client Toolbars and Toolbar Profiles.

Application-specific toolbars are displayed in their respective windows when those applications are opened. For example, the Customer window (shown below) has an application-specific toolbar for managing customer accounts, and the Product Catalog has an application-specific toolbar for product management. These toolbars are static (the same for all users).

The sidebar lets you navigate and manage windows in the client when you have several windows open at the same time. See Managing Open Windows via the Sidebar.

Status Bar

The status bar provides miscellaneous status information. See About the Status Bar.
