The Total Occurrences rating method is based on the total number of occurrences for the related bill period when used with occurrence-based usage. If your usage records contain the number of occurrences in the Duration field, the system adds all of the durations together to arrive at the Total Occurrences tier for occurrence-based usage.
The system must be set up to collect the total occurrences. Select Enable Total Occurrences Rating in Admin Console in Business Rules > Backoffice Settings > Rating.
Again, the system collects the number of occurrences in “buckets,” but as each bucket (tier) gets full, its contents are emptied into the next bucket.
Here are the Rate Details for an example using an occurrence-based usage type.
Rating Method | Tier Range | Rate |
|---|---|---|
Total Occurrences | 0 - 10 | $0.05 |
Total Occurrences | 11 - 15 | $0.04 |
Total Occurrences | 16 + | $0.03 |
If the customer makes 5 occurrence-based calls in the bill period, the total charge is $.25 ($.05 x 5). But, if the customer makes 20 occurrence-based calls in the bill period, the total charge is $.60 ($.03 x 20).
Total Occurrence rating is especially useful for usage such as Bulk Directory Assistance. One of these usage records contains the number of DA calls in the Duration field. The Total Occurrences rating method totals all of the calls in the duration fields for that service number just before the billing process is run (Automatically re-rate before billing). Using this total, the correct tier is derived and the charged is assessed.
Note
Seconds-based usage types cannot be rated with occurrence-based rating. They will be sent to Unbillables for no rating method.
