The system calculates and stores the number of minutes designated in the rate details in “buckets” based on the ranges entered in the Location field of the rate detail records. Minutes of use are rated according to when the call was made. When the first bucket is full, the next minutes are rated at the second bucket's rate, and so on. The Minutes rating method only rates seconds-based usage.
An example - the Rate Details are configured as below.

If the customer makes a 5 minute call, each of those minutes are rated at $.05, for a total of $.25. The next call lasts 12 minutes. 5 minutes of that call are rated at $.05 per minute; 5 minutes at $.04 per minute; and 2 minutes at $.03 per minute for a total of $.51 (.25 + .20 + .06) for that 12-minute call. The total charge for the two calls is $.76.
