To test emails and notifications prior to using in other web applications, you can send them directly from the Communications module.
To do this, from the Communications main menu select New. This displays the Create New Message/Notification form. The form defaults to New Message (email); however, you can toggle to New Notification by clicking the down arrow.

The editor for creating the message/notification content is similar to the Template Editor in that you can enter fixed text and images, and insert smart data.
The editor operates the same for messages and notifications, except that the New Notifications version does not provide a From field. For notifications the Alias is set by the From Alias For Notifications parameter configured via MANAGE > Settings.
