When you enter an address for a new customer or change an address for an existing contact, the IDI platform determines which address validation method should be used. The result of this determination is the address's Required Validation Type.
The Required Validation Type is the validation method the system determines should be used for the contact. If the required validation method is unavailable, another method is used. The validation method actually used to assign the tax jurisdiction is displayed as the Actual Validation Type on the Address Validation Information window of the customer record.
The system verifies the contact is one requiring validation. Address validation for taxing is performed only on the following contact types:
Primary Customer Contact
Location Contact (for POS)
Service Contact (not Service Address)
Shipping Contact
If your company has a license for Enhanced Address Validation, the Required Validation Type is Enhanced Address Validation. (See How Enhanced Address Validation Works)
If not, the Required Validation Type is USPS. (See How USPS Address Validation Works)
