Installation Overview

Please follow the instructions below to install and configure one of the following Epson receipt printers or receipt printer/MICR reader combination devices for use with CostGuard and a cash drawer (if desired):

Receipt Printer

TM-T88III, TM-T88IV, TM-T88V, TM-U220B, TM-U220D

Receipt Printer/MICR Reader

TM-H2000

IMPORTANT:

All installation steps should be completed prior to the commencement of software configuration. For troubleshooting assistance please contact IDI.

IMPORTANT:

Prior to beginning this install the machine MUST have the following installed:

  • Microsoft .NET 2.0 (or greater) Framework

  • Microsoft POS for .NET 1.1 (or greater) Framework

  • CostGuard client

It is also recommended that you uninstall any printer drivers or software previously installed on the machine to prevent compatibility issues.

Printer Software Installation

  • Copy the TM-Series Printers folder onto the register and unzip.

    IMPORTANT:

    The files must be saved locally, not on a shared network drive.

  • Open a command prompt and navigate to the TM-Series Printers folder.

    IMPORTANT:

    For Windows Vista, 7 or greater, right click on the command prompt and select Runasadministrator.

  • Execute the Epson TM-Series Printers batch file to install the needed OPOS drivers.

  • From the Epson OPOS ADK Wizard Welcome screen, click Next.

  • From the Information screen (if displayed), click Next.

  • From the Software License Agreement screen, select ‘I accept the terms of the license agreement’ and click Next.

  • From the Select Registry File screen, select the No registry file option and click Next.

  • From the Setup Type screen, select the User option and click Next.

  • From the Start Copying Files screen, click Next.

  • From the Port selection screen, select the checkbox matching the connection type of the printer and click Next.

    IMPORTANT:

    The selection should be either Serial port, Parallel port or USB port. CostGuard does not support Ethernet port integration.

  • The Setup Status screen is displayed and the setup program will install the necessary files.

  • From the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen, uncheck Display the release notes and click Finish.

Software Configuration

Printer Configuration

  • Log off of Windows and reboot the register. Upon reboot completion, plug the TM-Series printer into an available port on the register.

  • Open the SetupPOS program installed with the Epson drivers. This should be available from the Start Menu or at the following location, assuming all defaults were used:

C:\Program Files\OPOS\Epson2\SetupPOS.exe for 32-bit machines or

C:\Program Files (x86)\OPOS\Epson2\SetupPOS.exe for 64-bit machines

  • From the EPSON OPOS ADK screen, expand the Device tree, right-click on POSPrinter and select Add New Device…

  • From the Add New Device screen, choose one of the following printer models from the Select Device Name drop-down list:

    • TM-T88III

    • TM-T88IV

    • TM-T88V

    • TM-U220B

    • TM-U220D

    • TM-H2000

  • From the Add New Device screen, select the appropriate model from the Select detailed model drop-down list and click Next.

    Note:

    If multiple options are shown, select the model that corresponds to the type of printer connection being used – U for USB connect, P for Parallel connection and S for Serial connection (e.g. the TM-88IV model with a USB connection might appear as TM-88IVU).

  • To verify if the install was successful, click CheckHealth Interactive and follow the steps presented.

    Note:

    If you are using a cash drawer with the printer then you will need to select it from the Port is being used by drop-down list.

  • When done, click Finish.

MICR Configuration

IMPORTANT:

The following section only applies to TM-H2000 devices. If you are not installing this device model, please skip to the Cash Drawer Configuration section.

  • If it is not already open, open the SetupPOS program installed with the Epson drivers. This should be available in your Start Menu or at the following location assuming all defaults were used:

C:\Program Files\OPOS\Epson2\SetupPOS.exe for 32-bit machines or

C:\Program Files (x86)\OPOS\Epson2\SetupPOS.exe for 64-bit machines

  • From the EPSON OPOS ADK screen, expand the Device tree, right-click on MICR and select Add New Device…

  • From the Add New Device screen, select TM-H2000 from the Select Device Name and Select detailed model drop-down lists and click Next.

  • To verify if the install was successful, click CheckHealth Interactive and follow the steps presented.

  • When done, click Finish.

  • From The contradictory warning of a setup of registry screen (if displayed), select OK.

Cash Drawer Configuration

IMPORTANT:

The following section only applies to registers with a cash drawer. If you are not using a cash drawer at this register, please skip to the CostGuard Configuration section.

  • Connect the cash drawer to the receipt printer via the RJ-45 plug on the back of the printer.

  • If it is not already open, open the SetupPOS program installed with the Epson drivers. This should be available in your Start Menu or at the following location assuming all defaults were used:

C:\Program Files\OPOS\Epson2\SetupPOS.exe for 32-bit machines or

C:\Program Files (x86)\OPOS\Epson2\SetupPOS.exe for 64-bit machines

  1. Right-click on CashDrawer in the left-hand tree and select Add New Device…

  • From the Select DeviceNameKey page select Standard from the Select Device Name drop-down and StandardU from the Select detailed model drop-down and click Next.

  • From the Communication Settings page, verify that the USB Port Settings drop-down is set to the same value as the receipt printer in the previous section. The Port is being used by drop-down should be set to that printer if there are multiple options.

  • Click the CheckHealth Interactive button and complete a test. The cash drawer should open when you click Start. Do not proceed until this check passes.

    • If the cash drawer does not open or you get an error you may need to switch the Open Status Phase of the drawer. Select the Device Specific Settings button.

    • From the Cash Drawer Settings page select the alternate option for the Open Status Phase. Select OK.

    • Re-run the CheckHealth Interactive test.

  • Select Finish to complete the configuration of the printer. Click OK to bypass the warning page that pops up.

  • Close the Epson OPOS ADK setup utility.

CostGuard Configuration

IMPORTANT:

Before beginning any of the configuration steps below, verify that the register has been rebooted as noted in the Printer Configuration section.

  • Log into CostGuard and navigate to Applications > POS Back Office > Locations.

  • From the Location Configuration window, right-click on the store where the register is located and select Registers.

  • Right-click on the register in question and select Edit.

  • From the Edit Register window, select the Devices tab.

  • Right-click on Receipt Printer from the Device Type column and choose Select.

  • From the Select Register Device window, select your printer model and click Save.

  • The model you selected will appear in the Device Name column on the Devices tab in the Edit Register window. Click Save.

    IMPORTANT:

    If you are setting up the TM-H2000 printer and wish to also set up its MICR reader capabilities, then repeat the previous five steps for the MICR Reader Device Type.

    IMPORTANT:

    If you are setting up the cash drawer then repeat the previous five steps for the Cash Drawer Device Type and select StandardU as the device.

  • From the Registers window, click Close.

  • From the Location Configuration window, click Close.

  • The printer is now ready for use with CostGuard.
