To charge for data usage, such as on a wireless phone, you must set up the rate details to use the Occurrences rating method with the Location of 1+ to rate usage for each data usage instance.
The system rates data in bytes, so you must divide the per MB rate by 1024 and the result as the Amount in the Rate Details.
Setting the Initial Increment and the Additional Increment to 1024 in the Override Settings, tells the system to charge the full amount for each MB or part thereof.
For example, if you want to rate data usage at $2.99 per MB, you must divide it by 1024 to determine the per byte rate.
The limit in the Amount field is eight digits after the decimal. The rate per byte in this instance is $0.002919921875 it will be truncated to $0.00291992 which will not be exactly $2.99 per MB.
In this example, if the subscriber uses data once and the download is 750 bytes, they would still be charged $2.99. The next time, if the down load is 1150 bytes, the charge would be $5.98.
