Use the Tax Exemptions option to define a list of tax exemptions by customer.
First, open a customer's account form.
From the Edit Customer Info form in Customer Management, access the Additional Information Tab and click the Tax Exemptions link. This displays the Tax Exemptions form.

General Exemptions
The top of this form lists general exemptions: Tax, Surcharge, USF and E911. Each column includes its associated jurisdictions.
Checking any of these boxes places an exemption on all taxes within that grouping. Enter the appropriate tax exemption IDs.
General Exemptions Example
As shown in this form, this customer is exempt from all federal taxes, as well as all E911 taxes.
Edit a General Exemption
To edit a General Exemption:
Check a check box to activate an exemption applying to this customer or uncheck it to deactivate an exemption.
Click Save to keep these changes, or Cancel to return to the customer account detail tab without making any changes.
Extended Exemptions
The bottom of the Tax Exemptions form shows extended exemptions. These are very specific tax exemptions that are a subset of a general exemption. Use this area to add or delete an extended exemption.
Edit an Extended Exemption
To add an extended exemption:
Right-click in this section and choose a jurisdiction. This displays the Add Extended [jurisdiction name] Exemption form.

To continue, double-click an exemption. The exemption row is displayed in the Extended Exemptions section of the form.
To delete an extended exemption, select it, right-click and click Delete.
General Exemptions Example
As shown in the previous Tax Exemption form, this customer is exempt from the county sales tax, but is not exempt from any other county taxes (except E911 because it is checked at the top).
Note
Overlap of exemptions is possible, but does not cause any problem. For example, if a general federal exemption is activated, and a federal extended exemption is listed at the bottom of this form, the customer is exempt from all federal taxes. (The extended exemption is simply redundant and can be deleted.)
