Custom Web Browser for Desktop Client

If you collect and manage customer information outside the IDI platform, for example, for marketing/upsell or other purposes, you can make the information easily accessible when you open a subscriber’s account via the IDI Desktop Client.

This is done by setting up the IDI platform to display a Web Browser tab on the Customer window. You configure this tab to display a specific web page with information related to the subscriber who’s account is open. The tab is available both for customers and prospects. The web page content is managed by you.

The URL is configurable per environment so that it can be different for the test, staging, and production environments. The tab is only available when both the tab URL and label are configured as described in Tab Set-up.

Tab Set-up

The tab label and URL are set up via Admin Console > Business Rules > Local Services > CostGuard Service > Customer Management Settings > Custom Web Browser.

The Web Browser Tab Label AND Web Browser Link must be entered for the Web Browser Tab to be displayed on the Customer window.

To view account-specific information, the {ACCTNUM} tag must be present and entered exactly as shown following the slash in the URL, for example:

Making the URL specific to the current user lets you control the web content based on the user’s permissions and other user characteristics.

In addition to the customer account tag ({ACCTNUM}) the URL supports a second dynamic component – the user name – so that the tab displays user-specific information and supports user-specific functionality. A {USERNAME} tag option in the Custom Web Browser setting is available to add to the query to view  User specific information.

Note:

If a username contains special characters (i.e. ‘&’) it may have unintended effects upon the generated URL.

Using the Tab

The tab, when properly set up, is presented at the end (far right) of the current tab list. A refresh button is located at the bottom of the tab. The tab is loaded from a URL that is generated from the client server environment and the customer/prospect that is selected for viewing. The tab loads customer/prospect specific information when selected.
