+A Discount Category is used to group discounts to calculate the usage used against a discount and the remaining free amount of usage. This lets you see a customer's usage and remaining minutes, data, or text for the assigned calling plans from within the customer record.
You will want to create discount categories to group similar discounts, for example, Anytime Airtime Minutes or Incoming Airtime. If you offer AdvancePay service, you will want to separate those discounts from post-paid discount categories. In naming discount categories, try to use names that customers will use when asking for their balances of units.
The discount category is displayed on the Unit Balance portion of the customer record.
Discount Categories are also used for Usage Notifications and for various Usage Notification reports.
