Managing Contracts

Prev Next

A contract is the fundamental agreement between your company and your subscriber. It can be implied through the subscriber's acceptance of a set of services, features, and/or functions packaged by your company, or it can be formalized by an actual signed agreement that specifies the services, features and/or functions provided by your company during a defined period of time. In a formal agreement, a set of penalties may also be invoked should the contract be terminated or its term violated before its scheduled expiration date.

Contract specifications are created and maintained in the Product Catalog and are assigned to a customer or service number. Each Contract is made up of Contract Terms, which, in turn, are made up of Penalties, and, for Minimum or Maximum Guarantee Term Types, there are Term Details.

  • Term Details are certain types of Usage or particular Products, which contribute toward meeting the terms of the contract.

  • Penalties are charges that are assessed if the customer does not meet the terms of the contract.

Contracts can be assigned at the customer level or at the service number level. Contracts assigned at the customer level can be associated with more than one service (see Contract Associations).

    Note:

  • Contracts cannot be assigned at the service level if they contain a Service Count Commitment term.

  • If the Contract Term was created in the Product Catalog with “Include Children” selected, products and services belonging to corporate children can be associated with the Contract Term. If “Include Children” was not selected, only the products and services of the current account are eligible.

  • Term Commitment contract terms cannot include corporate children.

Once a contract has been assigned, you edit the contract to associate products and services to the Contract Terms and to override Contract Terms, Penalties, billing status, and dates. If you do not have Catalog Item edit permission, you can select View to see the details of the contract.

Contract Terms specify what conditions the customer agrees to meet. See Contract Terms.

If a customer does not meet the terms of a contract, a penalty is applied. Each Contract Term must have at least one associated Penalty. See Penalties.
