Customer Field-level configuration rules are evaluated when you create or edit a customer or prospect. Rules that apply to contacts are evaluated from the Contacts page.
Create/Edit Customer
Required Fields - Required field validation is applied when creating and editing a customer or prospect. On toggling/selecting the account type, any rules configured by account type are applied.
Fields configured to be required are marked with an asterisk and the account cannot be saved if a value is not provided.
If a rule was added to require a field after an account was created, users will not be to edit and save the account unless a value is supplied for the required field.
Default Values - Defaults apply when adding a new customer or prospect. They do not apply when editing.
Default rules configured with Account Type In Any apply as soon as the +New button is clicked. On toggling/selecting the account type, rules configured by account type are applied. The Account Type In Any rules are not reapplied on toggling the account type multiple times.
When defaults are applied, a message is displayed to notify users:If a field is defaulted based on account type, and then toggled to an account type with no default value, the prior value is maintained. It will not be blanked out or un-defaulted.
Note on converting a prospect to a customer: Default rules for fields that are not available on a prospect (Account Manager and Billing Fields) will be applied when a prospect is converted to a customer.
Restricted Fields - Field Restriction configuration is applied when creating and editing a customer or prospect. A rule to restrict a field has three conditions (one each for Account Type, Account Status, and User Group). All three conditions must be true to restrict the field.
Fields that are restricted are disabled, with the current value visible.
Toggling the Account Type and/or Account Status will result in the field restriction rules being re-evaluated based on the new value(s).
Note
If a required field is restricted and a default value is not configured, there may be instances where users are unable to create or update an account. Attempting to save the account will return a required field validation error; however, users will be unable to access the field to provide a value.
Contacts Page
When editing the Primary Customer Contact and the Primary Billing Contact on the Contacts page, the Required and Restricted rules will apply. This ensures a consistent experience between editing those records on the Edit Customer page and the Edit Contact page.
