Hank has signed up for your special pricing plan “Florida Sundays” which gives him a special rate of $.10 per minute for calls to anyone in Florida on Sundays (which has been designated as a Night rate).
In the Product Catalog, on the New Pricing Plan window, you assigned the “Florida Sundays” pricing plan to the Weekend Specials pricing plan group with a rank of 10. You assigned the “Flat Rate” pricing plan to the Default pricing plan group with a rank of 100.

How the IDI platform Rates the Call
Determine the distance type. From the originating and terminating numbers, The IDI platform determines that the call is an interstate call and that the call belongs to Hank.
Determine the rate period. From the call detail record, the IDI platform determines which rate period the call originates in (day, evening, or night).
Determine which pricing plan(s) apply. The IDI platform finds that “Florida Sundays” and “Flat Rate” pricing plans are assigned to Hank's service number.
Hunt through each pricing plan. The IDI platform starts checking the rates in the “Florida Sundays” pricing plan, because it belongs to a group with a higher ranking. It checks for a match, hunting in the order shown in the Hunting Sequence diagram above. Starting on the InterState row, it checks for a match in the Location field. When it reaches the State rating method's Location field, it finds a match of FL.
The IDI platform populates the duration (billed duration) using the initial time and increments of additional time. The call is then rated at $2.30 ($0.10 for the first minute + 21 minutes x $0.10 for each additional minute + 1 x $0.10 for the partial minute).

Let's look at the same call-except that Hank's Aunt Matilda now lives in Gastonia, NC (704) 865-8934.
How the IDI platform Rates the Call
From the originating and terminating numbers, the IDI platform determines that the call is an interstate call.
From the call detail record, the IDI platform determines which rate period the call originates in (day, evening, or night).
The IDI platform finds that “Florida Sundays” and “Flat Rate” pricing plans are assigned to Hank's service number.
The IDI platform starts checking the rates in the “Florida Sundays” pricing plan, because it belongs to a group with a higher ranking. It checks for a match, hunting in the order shown in the Hunting Sequence diagram above. Starting on the Interstate row, it checks for a match on LATA: no match, NPA: no match, State: no match (the call is to North Carolina, not Florida), continuing through all the available rates in this pricing plan, up to and including the default of the international calls. No match is made.
The IDI platform then starts checking the other pricing plan: “Flat Rate.” It checks the rates and finds a match on Interstate, all states.
The IDI platform fills in the duration field (billed duration) using the initial time and increments of additional time. The call is then rated at $4.60 ($0.20 for the first minute + 21 minutes x $0.20 for each additional minute + 1 x $0.20 for the partial minute).

In this example Hank has canceled his Florida Sunday plan and has purchased two new plans. One plan provides 400 free anytime minutes.The other plan provides unlimited free minutes on weekends and evenings after 7:00 PM. Hank, made a call from his home in Webster, NY (585) 872-7541 to his Aunt Matilda in Gastonia, NC (704) 865-8934 on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 7:05 pm. The call lasted 32 minutes, 12 seconds.
In the Product Catalog, on the New Pricing Plan window, you assigned the new pricing plans to the Free Minutes pricing plan group with a rank of 10. The Flat Rate pricing plan is still assigned to the Default pricing plan group with a rank of 100.
The Unlimited Nights & Weekends plan is assigned a higher processing order than the 400 Anytime Minutes plan. This ensures that the Unlimited Nights & Weekends plan is processed before the 400 Anytime Minutes plan such that minutes will not be deducted from the 400 Anytime Minutes discount when calls occur on nights or weekends.
