Creating and Managing Subservices

This article will walk you through:

Product Catalog Set Up

The IDI platform supports a parent/child relationship for linking services. When this relationship exists, the parent is referred to as a ‘Parent Service’ and the child is referred to as a ‘Subservice’. Only one level within hierarchy is supported so a subservice (child) cannot have its own subservices.

Begin by setting up your services in the Client Product Catalog. When you want to create a parent/child relationship, the parent service must be configured to ‘Allow Subservices’.

Once the service is set up to ‘Allow Subservices’, you can configure Subservice Rules. To do this, right click on the service that you want to be a Parent Service and select ‘Sub-Service Rules’ from the displayed menu.

The system will display the ‘Sub-Service Rules’ grid. This grid displays all the service types that can be assigned as a child service. To add a new service type, right click and select ‘New’. Then select the service type from the drop-down list. Click‘Save’.

The Child Service Type list contains all service types except for the Parent Service that you are configuring. It is worth noting that every service can be a stand-alone service, even when it is configured within a subservice rule. The subservice rules configurations simply control which services can be linked within a parent/child relationship.

Orders – Creating Parent and Subservice Assignments

You can create parent and subservice assignments during the order placement process.

Adding New Parent & Assigning A New Subservice

From the Orders module, add your parent service to your order using the Add Service option. To add and assign a subservice, click on the parent service that is in the order, then click on the subservice icon.

This will display the available subservice types. Click on the service type that you want to add as a subservice. The system will then display the service in the order with the established parent/child relationship.

Existing Parent Assigning New Subservice

From the Orders module, add your parent service to your order using the update action from modify service options.

To add and assign a subservice, click on the parent service that is in the order, then click on the subservice icon.

Care – Managing Parent and Subservice Assignments

You can manage the parent and subservice relationships for assigned instances from the Care module. This can be done using the Change Parent Service functionality.

Users can access the Change Parent Service functionality from the main menu of a customer’s account.

The functionality can also be access using a quicklink at the service level (when quicklink is enabled).

The Change Parent Services page will display all active services on the action by default. Users can select a single service change, or select services in bulk. To select services in bulk, click on the first service, chose ‘Select’ option and, while holding the shift-key, click on the last service to change and chose ‘Select’.

Once all services that you wish to change are selected, you can drag and drop to the parent service. The system will display how many services that you are moving.

If you attempt to move service under a service type that is not configured with subservice rules, the system will display an error message.

If you want to remove the parent and subservice relationship, select the subservice and chose the ‘Remove Parent’ option.
